Renaissance Drapery Drawing & Painting Workshop

Saturday 11 October 2025 | 10.30am - 4.30pm

This one day workshop will introduce students to the delights of drawing with pencil and charcoal and painting with acrylics, inspired by the theme of drapery.
It is ideal for all levels from beginners to more experienced students.

Drapery is an ideal starting point in learning to draw and paint because it is immediately abstract. Its flowing, curved and sometimes sharp angular shapes can inspire a bold or meticulous approach.
The morning session begins with a welcome tea or coffee and an introduction to paintings and drawings from the history of art to inspire your choice of drapery subject. Beginning with Renaissance masterpieces, you will be also able to work from colour copies of famous paintings from later periods, which you can keep after the event. Essential techniques of drawing and painting will be taught throughout the day with group demonstration and plenty of individual tuition, allowing you to work at your own pace in a friendly and supportive setting.

All painting and drawing materials are provided and 12 places are available. Contact the tutor by email to book: elizabethbeattie@mac.com
Tutor: Dr Elizabeth Beattie is an experienced artist and tutor. She is a Fine Art graduate and Art historian.
