Dear Friends,
I don’t think I will ever lose the excitement, the joy, of walking into Worcester Cathedral. I am so conscious that, in this beautiful place of worship and community, we stand where countless generations of our ancestors have stood before. It is our privilege today to be guardians of a Cathedral that has been at the heart of the nation’s story for centuries.
Worcester Cathedral is many things to many people. Our challenge is to protect this special place; to deliver the Cathedral into the next century, for those who will come to enjoy and marvel as we do today. If you are a regular visitor or worshipper, we need your support to enable us to keep the doors open and the lights on, for all who wish to join us.
If you are perhaps coming to the Cathedral for the first time, your support is warmly welcomed to help to protect this unique, historic building for the time until you return – and for the many others who will follow in your footsteps.
Today, we ask you to consider a regular gift – a small, affordable contribution that will give us the predictable income needed to successfully steward the Cathedral during our time of responsibility – ready to hand on to future generations. Thank you.
The Very Revd Dr Stephen Edwards, Dean of Worcester
Worcester Cathedral has become a very important place in my life – and to the relationship I have with my wonderful granddaughter, Evie, who attends Kings School. I don’t think I’ve missed a concert or recital the school has put on, and I love to attend Cathedral concerts when I can. We often go to the Cathedral together, to have lunch in the cloister, spend some money in the gift shop and just marvel at this wonderful building.
I began my regular gift after the storms that damaged the pinnacle because I think it’s vital that we all protect this special place. I know my regular gift is appreciated and I trust that they will spend my contribution wisely. They let me know when extra help is needed and I give when I can. But there’s no pressure to give more and I feel valued.

The Cathedral is very precious to me. I came to know it very well in the mid-1950s; I was just seven years old when my father, Robert Milburn, became Dean of the Cathedral. It was a very different role back then – he had to do most of the administrative work himself, with just a couple of people supporting him. My mother chaired the Flower and Embroidery Guilds, and as a little girl I would ‘help’ by polishing the candlesticks!
I moved away when my father moved to London, but I returned to Worcestershire in later life. Today, I am very pleased to support the Cathedral in memory of my family and also because I believe this building with its superb music must be cherished and celebrated and preserved for the next generation.

My regular gift to Worcester Cathedral began when close friends of my mother first introduced me to this remarkable place – and I was moved to give. I am a keen supporter of cathedrals and also small, local parish churches. I feel we are incredibly lucky to have been given these places in which to worship; to stand where countless generations have stood before.
I am very glad to support the Cathedral in this way. It comforts me greatly to know that my regular gift will help preserve Worcester Cathedral as a place of worship for so many others to enjoy.
