Reach New Heights This October Half-Term

Monday 26 & Tuesday 27 October 2026 | 10.30am-12pm

Children and families are invited to discover the fascinating world of cathedral conservation and craftsmanship this October Half-Term through two free, hands-on workshops inspired by Worcester Cathedral's exciting ‘Reaching New Heights’ pinnacle restoration project*.

Taking place in the Cathedral Nave on Monday 26 October and Tuesday 27 October, the interactive drop-in sessions will give young visitors the chance to step into the shoes of engineers, builders and stonemasons while learning about the vital work taking place high above the Cathedral.

Through creative activities, historical insights and family-friendly challenges, participants will explore how the Cathedral's pinnacles are being restored as part of the ongoing conservation project.

Build the Scaffolding | Monday 26 October, 10.30am-12pm

Families will be able to learn more about the Pinnacle Restoration Project through objects, visuals and creative play. Visitors can watch a time-lapse film showing the dramatic erection of the scaffolding around the Cathedral tower, handle real scaffolding materials and discover how specialist stonemasons are reconstructing the pinnacles.

Young engineers will then be challenged to create their own scaffolding structures around large cardboard models of the Cathedral Tower using craft materials including straws, lolly sticks, pipe cleaners, masking tape and Blu Tack. Once complete, aspiring builders can send miniature 'masons' up their structures to repair a pinnacle and find out whether their designs can withstand the task.

Mini Masons: Sculpt a Pinnacle | Tuesday 27 October, 10.30am-12pm

The following day, families can take inspiration from the Cathedral's skilled craftspeople and become stonemasons for the morning. After exploring the project through displays, videos and examples of stonework, participants will be invited to sculpt their own miniature pinnacle from air-dry clay.

Drawing inspiration from the Cathedral's historic architecture and the designs created by the project's masons, children can unleash their creativity and take home their unique creations as a memento of the day.

Both workshops are free to attend, with donations welcomed, and are recommended for primary school-aged children. The sessions are designed to encourage families to learn, create and explore together while gaining a unique insight into the conservation of one of Worcester's most iconic landmarks.

Workshops take place in the Cathedral Nave and operate on a drop-in basis between 10.30am and 12pm.
