Calligraphy with Illustration
Enjoy a day of calligraphy with a focus on learning to write in a beautiful Foundational Roundhand style with optional illustration. This workshop is suitable for adult students, both beginners and more experienced calligraphers. All essential calligraphy and painting materials will be provided.
After a welcome tea or coffee, we will explore the history of the Foundational hand, its Benedictine connection and its development as an essentially English style in the influential work of Edward Johnston.
Gaining fluency in writing individual letters with traditional script pens, you can progress to writing a short prayer, saying or poetry extract of your choice. One line is fine! This can be developed as an artwork or greetings card with optional single or simple border illustration.
Tutor: Dr. Elizabeth Beattie is a Fine Art graduate with MA and PhD in History of Art. She has an Advanced Diploma in Calligraphy and regularly teaches one-day workshops and short courses.
