Queen’s Baton Relay to visit Worcester Cathedral
We're looking forward to welcoming the Queen’s Baton Relay on Friday 22 July as part of its final journey through England this summer – a journey which brings together and celebrates communities across the Commonwealth during the build up to the Birmingham Games.
The Baton is expected to arrive at the Cathedral at around 5.45pm and local schools, scouts and community groups have been invited to cheer it along as it passes through the Cathedral, and on to the rest of the City.
All are warmly welcome to line the route outside as it arrives and leaves the Cathedral and experience the excitement of this historic occasion. The baton will enter the Cathedral via the north porch (opposite the High Street) where Civil War re-enactors will form a guard of honour in College Yard.
It will then leave the Cathedral at around 5.50pm, out of the south door onto College Green where spectators can enjoy an open-air performance by DanceFest, then head down towards the river on its way to New Road Cricket Ground.
The Vice-Dean, Canon Stephen Edwards, said: “We are delighted that the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay will visit Worcester Cathedral, as part of its incredible journey through England this summer. We are looking forward to celebrating the arrival of the Baton and everyone here is excited to give it a warm welcome.”
We will close for visiting slightly earlier than usual, at 4pm, to allow us time to set out the route inside.
