Celtic Calligraphy and Design Workshop
Enjoy this one-day workshop exploring Celtic calligraphy and design in the Undercroft Learning Centre.
After a welcome tea or coffee, a short introductory talk will introduce beautiful examples of scripts from the Celtic tradition, including the Book of Kells, the Lindisfarne Gospels and work by your tutor and other contemporary artists.
Celtic letterforms known as uncials are easy to make, especially if you are a beginner. There will be group demonstrations, one-to-one tuition, clear exemplars to work from and a gentle pace! The workshop is suitable for adult students at all levels from absolute beginners to more experienced calligraphers, wanting to refresh or develop new skills in lettering and illustration. You can explore a range of Celtic designs such as trefoils, which are widely used symbols representing the Trinity. These can be developed into colourful individual pieces of artwork to be card mounted and taken home. Please book early as just twelve places are available!
