I would like to make a contribution to help sustain the music, singing, and music education that enrich the life and worship at Worcester Cathedral.

A Message from Samuel Hudson, Director of Music

No two years are ever the same in a cathedral music department, and as we approach September, there is always a sense of renewal and fresh beginnings. This year is no different. We look forward to welcoming new choristers as they begin their musical journey, new choral and organ scholars eager to develop their skills, and often new lay clerks who will contribute to our centuries-old tradition.

Notably, this year marks a significant step forward as our boy and girl choristers join forces to form a combined treble line. While this is not unfamiliar territory for us, formalising this change allows us to focus more deeply on the musical training and experience we offer, while opening up new opportunities for all involved.

We are also continuing to provide musical opportunities for singers of all ages from the local area through our Voluntary Choir, Youth Choir, and Chamber Choir. For the first time, we are introducing regular opportunities for professional sopranos to contribute to the life of the Cathedral. There is a nationwide gap in support for female sopranos pursuing careers in choral music, and Worcester has lacked a regular platform for them to participate. By creating new pathways, we aim to support talented young female singers in a professional environment, helping them grow and thrive.

Of course, all of this requires time, careful nurturing, and financial support and I hope you do not mind me asking for your help once again. Could you please consider making a donation to help sustain the music, singing, and music education that enrich life and worship here in Worcester.

Please accept my sincere and grateful thanks for any contribution you feel able to make in support of our choirs this year.

Darcy & Pip's Postcards

Although our choristers are currently on their summer break, I invited two of them to share their thoughts and hopes for the year ahead with you, by sending a postcard.

Please do take a look at the postcards sent from two of our choristers - small tokens of our appreciation and a glimpse into the lives you can, as donors, help to shape.
